Garden 2014 - Month 1

Last year I had a couple tomato and pepper plants in the back yard but I'm not big on eating either so growing them got kind of boring.  Well this year I went a little bigger.  I may regret this once the baby gets here but for now it gives me something to do outside and not forget all my country roots.  Month 1 for the garden has been pretty good I think. Day 1   Week 2 Week 3 Week4    "Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce." - Jeremiah 29:5

K I S S

K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid I've seen this principle or idea used in many different areas such as teaching, work, and even fitness.  In working out, it basically means that you don't have to one-legged alternating full supination bicep curls to get a good workout, you can just do dumbbell curls and that'll work.  So why haven't we ever tried to apply this to our Christian walk?  Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some issues that are not simple and are very deep and complex.  I love in-depth discussions on topics that aren't crystal clear sometimes in the bible and that we struggle with today.  So this post will not directly address anything such as alcohol, greed, sex, homosexuality, hypocrisy or any other specific sins. 1.  Love The Lord Your God "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"  Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul and with all your mind." - Matthew 22:36-37 ...

Let's be Fair

People keep saying they want things fair and screaming equality. Well let's just get real fair here for a minute. The definition of equal is "as great as, the same as, like or alike in degree or value". Tim Tebow is a Christian, spoke op enly about his faith and was criticized for it. Michael Sam is homosexual, acts openly about it on tv and is praised. What part of that sounds fair or equal? Both were male college athletes heading into the NFL proud of their beliefs, yet one is praised by the media for his beliefs while the other is criticized for discussing his? Do you really want fair?     "They attacked Tim Tebow for talking about faith, but they praised Michael Sam for being gay? Does the media have two different definitions when talking about tolerance? http://fxn.ws/1qvhvb7 " - Fox & Friends photo and quote   I had a post on FB a while back about sexual immorality but it can basically be summed up in this verse, "Or do you n...

Let's Go Fishing

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” – Matthew 4:19 Three Things We Really Need to Know About Fishing 1)       You don’t determine if a fish is good enough when you throw in the line.   You just want to catch something.   -     On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.   I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” – Mark 2:17 -           I think of the popular phrase “preaching to the choir”.   How often do we minister to the people just like us?   We are more comfortable approaching people at church or similar to us but we are called to try to win ALL souls to God and make a difference everywhere, not just in our own little comfort zone.  It's called OUTreach...not inreach for a reason. 2)       You don’t have to be a professiona...

Hands

A basketball in my hands is worth about $19. A basketball in LeBron James's hands is worth about $33 million. It depends whose hands it's in. A baseball in my hands with worth about $6. A baseball in Felix Hernandez' hands is worth $275 million. It depends whose hands it's in. A tennis racket is useless in my hands. A tennis racket in Andy Murray's hands is worth millions. It depends whose hands it's in. A rod in my hands will keep away an angry dog. A rod in Moses' hands will part the mighty sea. It depends whose hands it's in. A slingshot in my hands is a kid's toy. A slingshot in David's hands is a mighty weapon. It depends whose hands it's in. Two fish and five loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of fish sandwiches. Two fish and five loaves of bread in Jesus' hands will feed thousands. It depends whose hands it's in. Nails in my hands might produce a birdhouse. Nails in Jesus Christ's hands will pr...

Clemson Can't Be #1

Dear Freedom From Religion Foundation, I would like to make a few points, who knows, I may even mail y'all a letter in Wisconsin since you clearly are capable of mailing letters to the good ole state of South Carolina.  If I was going to attack a public university, let's say Clemson for example, about them possibly violating constitutional rights and not having a separation of church and state I would really try to make sure I knew what I was talking about first.  1)  The First Amendment states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."  That's pretty plain and simple if you read the entire sentence, people are free to choose their own religious beliefs and to exercise them as they see fit as long as they do so in a peaceable manner. 1a)  The phrase "separation of church and state" does not appear in The Constitution.  It's believed to have first been used by Th...

My Version of Easter

Our timing and other Easter traditions are based on pagan rituals and mainly derived from the fertility goddess names Eostre.  Christian missionaries in Europe used pagan rituals and the timing to sort of morph their holiday into our Christian celebration today.  By using activities the people were already comfortable with, it allowed them to be a witness thru familiar activities and opened doors for communication.  Hunting eggs can be traced back to the Greeks and Egyptians who saw eggs as a sign of fertility and new life.  They used the eggs in pagan celebrations and even hung them up in the temples.  Christians again used this activity to relate and minister to people as certain colors were used to spread the Word; yellow for the resurrection, blue for love, and red for the blood of Jesus Christ.  The Easter Bunny comes from a German story of a woman who hid Easter eggs in her garden as treats.  And one year as her children were searching f...
