I originally posted this on June 19th on Facebook but I know Dad doesn't get on there so figured I'd post here for him too.
I don't know where to begin to share my thoughts and feelings about the murders in Charleston. There are so many issues that arise from this horrific tragedy.
First, prayer is needed for the families who have suffered loss. Children, grandchildren, and others lost godly examples and role models in their lives who were doing the most honorable thing they could be doing at the time, worshipping our Lord and praying.
Second, I wish we knew the motive for the attack but even if... we did I'm not sure I could comprehend such hate and violence. There are clearly racial issues present in today's world which need to be dismissed and resolved. I know that is easier said than done as racism is typically (not always) passed down thru generations. God did not create different races. The only biblical reference to race is referring to Christians and non-Christians. There is no color in the Bible and if we can ever make our own eyes color blind the world would be a much more beautiful place. I pray that this is not the start of a war on Christianity. Our country was founded on Christian beliefs and those beliefs are under attack from many fronts; terrorist, false teachers, unbelievers, and some in politics.
Third, I'm seeing comments about gun control and more laws and regulations concerning that. It's not the gun, it's the individual. Changing laws does not change the availability of weapons to criminals. Drugs are illegal but they get them. Making guns illegal will not stop bad guys from getting guns.
They say not to bring a knife to a gunfight. Well I encourage you to bring a sword. Bring the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). Verse 18 encourages us to pray in all occasions with all prayer requests. I don't know how to solve everything going on in our world right now but I do believe the first step is prayer.
