Lessons in Prayer - 1 Timothy 2:1-8 - Biblical Knowledge

"This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." - 1 Timothy 2:3-4

Paul starts out these verses calling God by the name our Savior, reminding us that He is the source of our salvation, and we cannot save ourselves.

Isn't it great to know, that the Creator and Ruler of the universe "desires all people to be saved."  The Greek word for desires used in V4 is different from the meaning of God's purpose.  His purpose, which is bigger than His desire, is to save everyone, even though scripture lets us see that not everyone will not be saved.  But it is reassuring to know that His desire, His want, His hope, is for us to be saved and not be separated from Him by sin.

So we see that the Lord wants us to be saved, but how does that happen?  In order to accept Christ's gift of salvation, we must first know about it, we must have the "knowledge of the truth."  Having the winning raffle ticket is no good if you don't know it's the winner.  If someone doesn't know what God is offering, then how can they accept it?  Christians should be careful to avoid false teachings in our walk with Christ and be sidetracked by the cool new thing, but to stay rooted in the truth of God's Word.

"How much better to get wisdom than gold!  To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver." - Proverbs 16:16

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank you this morning for your grace that is sufficient to cover and cleanse my sins.  I thank you for your wonderful gift of salvation that I cannot afford.  And Lord, I pray that I will take on your desire for people to be saved, and do my part to spread the truth of your Word.  Father, if those of us who have a knowledge of you don't tell others then who will?  I pray for wisdom Lord, in matters both great and small.  I pray that would give me discernment in the decisions ahead in my life for providing for my family.  I also pray for your Holy Spirit to fill me with an understanding of your Word.  Thank you for the truths that we find in the Bible that lead us to you.  Lord, I pray that you fill those who know you with the knowledge of the truth, and a heart to share that truth with a lost and dying world.  Amen.

2020 is Hindsight...Finally!

Wow, what a year! 2020 could literally be an entire decade, maybe more, of history, change, and lessons rolled up into these twelve months. While many aspects of 2020 were kind of sucky and we would like to forget them, it will certainly be a year to remember. And it will be enlightening when this year is looked back on in 10, 25, or 50 years to be discussed. I wonder if we'll seem like geniuses or idiots? Probably both to some extent! While there is so much that I could consider and analyze about this year, I'll try to break some of it down into four dimensions - Physical, Spiritual, Mental, and Social/Emotional. These are events and happenings from my world and perspective and I'm trying to be open in sharing and would love to hear from others on events you found most transforming. Physical When COVID cause gyms to close, that messed me up. Our town and state were late to be hit with severe cases and therefore later than many across the country to close up shop. I'm n...

Don't Say God is Silent When Your Bible is Closed

I read this article a couple weeks ago and felt like sharing it.  The writer is Matt Brown, founder of Think Eternity. God is always speaking to us through his word. But the Bible is clear we need special, God-given ears to hear him. “Don’t say God is silent when your Bible is closed.” I don’t know who said or shared it first, but it’s clear this simple statement resonates with many, at least it has with me. These 10 words rebuke our fear that God might be inactive or uncaring in the brokenness and messiness of our lives, and reminds us that he cares, he sees and he speaks. But too often, we’re just not listening. God is always ready to speak into our lives. We simply need to listen, tuning our ears and hearts to what he is saying in the book he inspired. When we open the Bible, we find more than 750,000 words breathed out by God himself for us. God Is Always Speaking Charles Spurgeon said, “No one ever outgrows the Scriptures. The Book widens and deepe...

Worship > Fellowship

I believe that worship, true worship of God, is more important than fellowship with other believers.  Now I'm not saying that fellowship and relationships aren't important.  But I am saying that if I'm not worshiping God, if I'm not right with him, then my other relationships can't be right.  My fellowship and worship with him is more important than my relationship with my wife, my son, family, friends, my church, and my community.  Think about it.  How can I love my wife like Christ loved the church if I don't love Christ?  I wouldn't know how to love without knowing him.  Why should she submit to me if I'm not worth submitting to?  And yes I do believes wives should submit, but I also believe that won't be an issue as long as she's submitting to a godly husband.  (Ephesians 5:22-25) Our love for others must flow from our love and worship of God.  1 John 4:19-21 reads, "We love because he first loved us.  If anyone says,...
