Sometimes the Task is Bigger Than You - Part 2: Why me?

When God called Moses to take on the task of leading His people out of Egypt, Moses began giving God excuses, questioning himself and the Lord.  We often begin to find excuses as to why we can't do something that seems to challenging or isn't our greatest passion.  And just as God did with Moses, He answers our questions and concerns today.

The first question Moses posed to God in Exodus 3:11 was, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?"  God's answer to Moses had nothing to do with Moses' skills.  God simply said, "I will be with you."  The answer to Moses' question of 'Why me?' was more dependent on God's presence for its power than on the abilities of Moses.  God still works that way in people today.  He doesn't choose the greatest and mightiest to use.  God uses regular ordinary people to show His greatness, not ours.  As long as God is with you, you can do it, you can get through it.  Remember that today.

Moses then reveals more of his self-doubt as he asks God in Exodus 3:13, "If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?'  What shall I say to them?"  This is where God gets BIG!  God replies, "I Am who I Am." and instructs Moses to tell the people, "I Am has sent me to you."  God's statement to Moses here would have had a tone of finality to it that would equate to a 'drop the mic' moment today.  God is confirming to Moses that He is the beginning and the end, He is self-sufficient, He has no needs, He is always the same, and He is the ruler over all things.  And if you really want to dig deeper into the Hebrew translation of the verb 'am' it gets really cool.  Some of their verbs took on the context of the situation.  Therefore, God was basically telling Moses, "I was, I Am, I will be."

When God authorized Moses to go out in His name and claim Him as the I Am, He was empowering Moses to go out and accomplish more than Moses ever imagined he could do.  Is God calling you to something bigger, more challenging, or more difficult than you ever imagined taking on?  If God calls you to it, He will walk with you through it.  Why me?  Why you?  Because God is with us.

Who Wants to be Dilos?

You're probably wondering if that's a typo or not. While doing a search for these letters did actually reveal that there is a brand and some fictional character out there with this name - my real intent was to show that order matters. You see, if we reverse the letters, you then spell the word, S-O-L-I-D. Yet far too many of us are operating with a Dilos mindset instead of getting our priorities in order and becoming Solid. We chase money like it's the most important thing in the world. The New Normal

When all of this COVID, Coronavirus, and pandemic talk first started, I literally got sick of hearing the phrase, "the new normal."  I heard sermons preached talking about what is normal.  I even preached one that I titled, "The Next Normal."  But what if these "new normal" people are actually onto something? When I was growing up, a normal summer consisted of a lot of time with Mom.  She was a school teacher so we were all out for several (probably stressful) months together.  She, my brother, and sister would spent countless hours at the pool and make several trips each year to stay at my aunt's house in the lower part of the state, about 30 minutes from the beach.  That was normal for me.
